Methodology

Methodology: PLANSPONSOR’s third annual Defined Benefit (DB) Administration Survey was sent to providers of DB participant administration services and excludes providers focused exclusively on investment-only, consultant/advisory or actuarial services. The questionnaire, which asked for more than 150 data points related to a provider’s experience and capabilities, was available online through early March and received a total of 36 responses. All data presented are as of December 31, 2012; historical data are as of December 31, 2011. The provider “rank” indicates its relative order sorted by total DB plan participants. Items marked as “NA” were unavailable at time of publication; those marked as “NR” gave no response. “DB only” and “DB/DC” clients are based on total DB clients (vs. total client relationships across all product lines) and may not total 100% due to other product bundles.
