Business Leaders Support Wellness Programs

More than half of business leaders surveyed said their leaders view wellness as an investment in human capital.

More than 90% of business leaders believe health has a significant influence on employee productivity and performance, according to results from a national survey conducted by HERO (the Health Enhancement Research Organization) in partnership with Findley Davies.

Sixty-two percent of the more than 500 respondents indicated healthy employees influence business productivity, 60% said it influences performance and 41% reported it influences employee engagement and morale. These are all more than the percentage who said healthy employees influence benefits cost reduction (30%).

Seventy-seven percent of business leaders said they feel their organization’s leaders are committed to improving the health of their workforce. Fifty-seven percent reported their business leaders view health improvement programs as an investment in human capital or as part of the company’s core business strategy.

Findley Davies said its wellness team offers clients a strategic approach to wellness that extends beyond the typical yearly health screenings and incentives to integrating it within business objectives and creating a workplace that views wellness as a people strategy.

According to Jessica Grossmeier, vice president of research, HERO, for several years now, companies of all sizes have been increasing their investment in employee health through workplace health management programs. While this movement is most commonly connected to a desire to control health care costs, HERO’s interactions with employers led the organization to conclude that there is more at play here and that employers are realizing greater, long-term value from good employee health.
