DB Liabilities Soar for Northern Ireland Electricity

31 July 2012 (PLANSPONSOREurope.com) –Northern Ireland Electricity’s pension fund has seen its defined benefit liabilities soar in the past year, according to accounts for year ended 31 March 2012.

The pension liability in the group's defined benefit scheme rose to £105.8m from £40.6m in 2011. The group attributes the increases in life expectancy assumptions and a decrease in the discount rate (resulting from lower bond yields) used to discount scheme liabilities offset by higher asset values.
