Walgreens, Caterpillar Ink Pharmacy Benefit
Deal
August 26, 2009 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - A program by
drugstore chain Walgreens offered to employers featuring
prescription drug benefits in their health care program
includes a price list reflecting the cost Walgreens pays the
drug supplier.
A Walgreens news release said Caterpillar Inc. had
signed up for the drug pricing program.
"Transparency around pharmacy pricing,
elimination of unnecessary and hidden costs in the
prescription drug supply chain and the opportunity to
effectively deliver lower cost solutions are in great
demand by the employer community," said Todd
Bisping, Caterpillar's pharmacy benefits manager, in
the news release.
According to the announcement, Walgreens and
Caterpillar also agreed to explore other ways of creating
an integrated health care and pharmacy program through
Walgreens Complete Care and Well-Being program. The
program combines work site health centers, in-store
clinics and pharmacies with the discount prescription
drug offering that is available nationally.
In addition, Walgreens is separately providing
Caterpillar employees, dependents, and retirees a
discount on all Walgreens branded and non-branded
products, effective January 1, 2010.
More than 70,000 Caterpillar employees, retirees
and eligible dependents will have access to prescription
drugs purchased under the program, according to the
announcement.
