The research found the Scottish are the happiest at work: 45% of Scots are happy at work compared with just 28% of people in the West Midlands, making them most unhappy at work. Next happiest are those from Yorkshire (42%) and London (41%). Kirkpatrick told PLANSPONSOR Europe: “Employers can play a pivotal role in improving happiness in their workplace by providing tangible benefits that will make an employee feel secure and valued. These can range from more ‘traditional’ benefits, such as a pension plan and health insurance, to initiatives that are growing in popularity, such as flexible working hours, subsidised gym membership, days off for birthdays and ‘duvet days’. “By offering a flexible benefits package, employers demonstrate appreciation of their employee’s individual needs, which will translate into long term happiness amongst the workforce as a whole.”
