Poland Prime Minister Outlines Reasons for Retirement Age Rise

15 February 2012 (PLANSPONSOREurope.com) - Poland’s Prime Minister has explained his reasons for the country’s retirement age being made equal for men and women and increased incrementally starting from 2013 up to 67, according to reports.

Poland.PL reports Prime Minister Donald Tusk told a meeting of the Women’s Congress Programme Council that the move would prevent anyone from saying in future that Poland could not pay pensions.

Tusk said: "It is my duty to explain all the reasons and all the probable effects of this operation - obviously painful for a number of people, including in particular women - raising the retirement age.

"If the retirement pension scheme - not only in Poland as it is a problem of the entire developed world - collapses, the effects will be disastrous.
"I am under no illusions that in Poland - as opposed to other countries - we will see an outburst of enthusiasm as soon as the proposal of reaching the retirement age is announced.”
