TRIVIAL PURSUITS: What was President Harry S. Truman’s middle name?

Harry Truman’s middle name was ‘S’ and didn’t stand for another name.

Several sources reveal that Truman’s parents couldn’t decide whether to give them the middle name Shipp, after his paternal grandfather or Solomon, after his maternal grandfather. So, they chose to just give him the middle name ‘S’ to represent both grandfathers.

Since the ‘S’ is not an abbreviation for something, a period afterward is not required, but Truman wrote his name with a period after the ‘S’ and used letterhead that also contained a period.
