Wednesday, the Dow lost 77.46 points (90.43%) to finish at 17,959.64, the NASDAQ closed 48.01 points (0.93%) lower at 5,105.57, and the S&P 500 was down 13.78 points (0.65%) at 2,097.94. The Russell 2000 decreased 15.51 points (1.32%) to 1,162.52, and the Wilshire 5000 fell 194.37 points (0.89%) to 21,719.11.
On the NYSE, 3.1 billion shares traded, with declining issues outnumbering advancing issues more than 3 to 1. On the NASDAQ, 2.9 billion shares changed hands, with a near 3 to1 lead for decliners.
The price of the 10-year Treasury note was up 8/32, decreasing its yield to 1.801%. The price of the 30-year Treasury note increased, 9/32, bringing its yield down to 2.567%.
