Yesterday, the Dow closed 358.51 points (1.51%) higher at 24,133.78, the NASDAQ was up 95.64 points (1.11%) at 8,730.16, and the S&P 500 increased 41.74 points (1.47%) to 2,878.48. The Russell 2000 climbed 48.82 points (3.96%) to 1,281.88, and the Wilshire 5000 gained 506.30 points (1.78%) to finish at 28,990.19.

The price of the 10-year Treasury note was down 5/32, increasing its yield to 0.653%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond fell 2 1/32, bringing its yield up to 1.254%.

Carrier patented the design of his air conditioner. In 1932, the yellow fever vaccine for humans was announced. In 1967, Muhammad Ali refused induction into the U.S. Army and was stripped of boxing title. He cited religious grounds for his refusal.
