Wednesday, the Dow rose 235.36 points (0.56%) to close at 42,225.32, the Nasdaq rose 151.16 points (0.87%) to close at 17,601.05 and the S&P 500 rose 37.90 points (0.67%) to close at 5,670.97. The Russell 2000 rose 33.12 points (1.65%) to close at 2,045.36, and the FT Wilshire 5000 Index rose 450.35 points (0.80%) to close at 56,603.69.

The 10-year Treasury note increased 4/32, bringing the yield to 4.127%. The 30-year Treasury bond decreased 1 28/32, bringing the yield to 4.627%.

In 1973, the first handheld telephone call was made by an employee of Motorola, who called AT&T’s Bell Laboratories. In 1996, federal agents in Montana apprehended Ted Kaczynski, an American terrorist known as the “Unabomber,” who had killed three people and injured more than 20 with explosives sent through the U.S. postal system. In 2016, private papers from a Panama law firm were made public and revealed how wealthy clients concealed their wealth and avoided paying taxes; the “Panama Papers” represented one of the biggest leaks of confidential data.
