Wednesday, the Dow was down 22.45 points (0.09%) at 26,007.07, the NASDAQ increased 29.56 points (0.38%) to 7,862.83, and the S&P 500 was up 2.21 points (0.08%) at 2,883.98. The Russell 2000 slipped 1.40 points (0.09%) to 1,500.68, and the Wilshire 5000 increased 27.22 points (0.09%) to 29,605.86.


The prices of the 10-year Treasury note and 30-year Treasury bond were each down 1/32, increasing their yields to 1.718% and 2.236%, respectively.

In 1945, the United Nations Charter was signed by President Harry Truman. In 1953, the U.S. and South Korea initiated a mutual security pact. In 1966, Michael DeBakey became the first surgeon to install an artificial heart pump in a patient. In 1974, President Richard Nixon announced that he would resign the following day. In 1978, the U.S. launched Pioneer Venus II, which carried scientific probes to study the atmosphere of Venus. In 1991, the U.N. Security Council approved North and South Korea for membership.
