Retirement Contributions Break Records in 2021
|
Retirement contribution rates reached record highs, with combined worker and employer contributions equal to 13.9% of pay in 2021, new data from the Plan Council of America show.

In November, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 0.1%, seasonally adjusted, and rose 7.1% over the last 12 months, not seasonally adjusted, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. The index for all items less food and energy increased 0.2% in November; up 6.0% over the year.

Tuesday, the Dow increased 103.60 points (0.30%) to close at 34,108.64, the Nasdaq increased 113.08 points (1.01%) to close at 11,256.81 and the S&P 500 gained 29.09 points (0.73%) to close at 4,019.65. The Russell 2000 gained 13.75 points (0.76%) to end trading at 1,832.36 and the Wilshire 5000 gained 282.95 points (0.72%) to close at 39,851.87.
The price of the 10-year Treasury note decreased 4/32 and the yield was down to 3.508%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond decreased 1/32 and the yield was down to 3.536%.

In 1819, Alabama became the 22nd state in the United States. In 1911, Norwegian Roald Amundsen became the first explorer to reach the South Pole, beating his British rival, Robert Falcon Scott. In 1960, the convention establishing the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development was signed by 18 European countries, the U.S., and Canada. In 1985, Wilma Mankiller became the first woman to lead a major Native American tribe as she formally took office as principal chief of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. In 2012, a mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, left 28 people dead, including 20 children and six adults from Sandy Hook Elementary School and the 20-year-old shooter, Adam Lanza.
