New orders for manufactured durable goods in November decreased $5.0 billion or 2.0% to $242.6 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced. This decrease, down two of the last three months, followed a 0.2% October increase. Excluding transportation, new orders were virtually unchanged. Excluding defense, new orders increased 0.8%. Transportation equipment, also down two of the last three months, led the decrease, $4.9 billion or 5.9% to $79.2 billion.
Sales of new single‐family houses in November were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 719,000, according to estimates released jointly by the Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. This is 1.3% above the revised October rate of 710,000 and is 16.9% above the November 2018 estimate of 615,000.

Tuesday, the Dow decreased 36.08 points (0.13%) to 28,515.45, the NASDAQ was up 7.24 points (0.08%) at 8,952.88, and the S&P 500 was down less than one point (0.02%) at 3,223.38. The Russell 2000 increased 3.87 points (0.23%) to 1,678.01, and the Wilshire 5000 was up 3.91 points (0.01%) at 32,844.52.
The price of the 10-year Treasury note was up 3/32, decreasing its yield to 1.902%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond increased 6/32, bringing its yield down to 2.333%.
