Yesterday, the Dow closed 204.10 points (0.68%) higher at 30,403.97, the NASDAQ gained 94.69 points (0.74%) to finish at 12,899.42, and the S&P 500 climbed 32.30 points (0.87%) to 3,735.36. The Russell 2000 was down 7.70 points (0.38%) at 1,996.25, and the Wilshire 5000 increased 182.46 points (0.47%) to 39,358.06.
The price of the 10-year Treasury note was up 1/32, decreasing its yield to 0.927%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond was unchanged, with its yield up to 1.666%.

ON THIS DATE: In 1845, six months after the congress of the Republic of Texas accepted U.S. annexation of the territory, Texas was admitted into the United States as the 28th state. In 1851, the first American Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) was organized in Boston. In 1949, KC2XAK of Bridgeport, Connecticut, became the first ultrahigh frequency (UHF) television station to begin operating on a regular daily schedule. In 1972, following 36 years of publication, the last weekly issue of “LIFE” magazine hit the newsstands. The magazine later became a monthly publication. In 1975, a bomb exploded in the main terminal of New York’s LaGuardia Airport, killing 11 people. In 1999, the Nasdaq composite index closed above 4,000 for the first time.
