Tuesday, the Dow increased 95.83 points (0.26%) to 36,398.21, the Nasdaq closed 89.54 points (0.56%) lower at 15,781.72, and the S&P 500 was down 4.84 points (0.10%) at 4,786.35. The Russell 2000 lost 14.95 points (0.66%) to finish at 2,246.51, and the Wilshire 5000 decreased 124.53 points (0.26%) to 48,642.86.

The price of the 10-year Treasury note was unchanged, with its yield up to 1.485%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond was down 4/32, increasing its yield to 1.905%.

In 1890, in one of the final chapters of America’s long Indian wars, the U.S. Cavalry killed 146 Sioux at Wounded Knee on the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota. In 1949, KC2XAK of Bridgeport, Connecticut, became the first ultrahigh frequency (UHF) television station to begin operating on a regular daily schedule. In 1975, a bomb exploded in the main terminal of New York’s LaGuardia Airport. Eleven people were killed.
