Thursday, the Department of Labor will issue its initial jobless claims report, and Freddie Mac will update average mortgage rates for the week.

Friday, the Dow dropped 333.59 points (0.77%) to close at 42,992.21, the Nasdaq fell 298.33 points (1.49%) to close at 19,722.03 and the S&P 500 dropped 66.75 points (0.1.11%) to close at 5,970.84. The Russell 2000 fell 37.98 points (1.67%) to close at 2,242.53, and the FT Wilshire 5000 Index dropped 687.31 points (1.14%) to close at 59,830.23.
The 10-year Treasury note was down 4/32, bringing the yield to 4.630%. The 30-year Treasury bond decreased 30/32, bringing the yield to 4.820%.
In the week ending December 27, the Dow rose 0.35%, the Nasdaq rose 0.76% and the S&P 500 rose 0.67%. The Russell 2000 rose 0.01%, and the FT Wilshire 5000 Index finished 0.56% higher.
