Monday, the Dow rose 167.01 points (0.38%) to close at 44,470.41, the Nasdaq rose 190.87 points (0.98%) to close at 19,714.27 and the S&P 500 rose 40.45 points (0.67%) to close at 6,066.44. The Russell 2000 rose 8.23 points (0.36%) to close at 2,287.94, and the FT Wilshire 5000 Index rose 379.14 points (0.63%) to close at 60,990.19.
The 10-year Treasury note decreased 1/32, bringing the yield to 4.503%. The 30-year Treasury bond decreased 26/32, bringing the yield to 4.713%.

2025 PLANADVISER Top Retirement Plan Advisers Entry Deadline Approaches
|
The designation recognizes the top retirement plan advisers in the industry based on quantitative measures, such as the number of plans and plan assets under advisement. Advisers named to the list will be celebrated at the PLANADVISER Industry Leader Awards in May. The deadline for entries is February 18.

ON THIS DATE: In 1945, the Yalta Conference between Allied leaders of World War II came to a close. In 1964, Sarah Palin—who, as John McCain’s running mate in the 2006 U.S. presidential election, was the first woman to appear on a Republican presidential ticket—was born. In 1975, British politician Margaret Thatcher was elected leader of the Conservative Party, replacing Edward Heath; she became Europe’s first woman prime minister in 1979. In 1989, the Reverend Barbara Harris of the Protestant Episcopal Church became the first female bishop in the Anglican Communion. In 1990, after serving 27 years in prison, Nelson Mandela was released, and he subsequently began negotiations with President F.W. de Klerk that ended apartheid in South Africa. In 2011, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down after nearly 30 years in power, following mass demonstrations that were part of the pro-democracy uprisings known as the Arab Spring. In 2012, rhythm-and-blues singer Whitney Houston—who emerged as a pop superstar in the 1980s—died at age 48.
