Monday, the Dow rose 125.69 points (0.33%) to close at 38,797.38, the Nasdaq fell 48.12 points (0.30%) to close at 15,942.55 and the S&P 500 fell 4.77 points (0.09%) to close at 5,021.84. The Russell 2000 rose 35.27 points (1.75%) to close at 2,045.26, and the FT Wilshire 5000 Index rose 22.14 points (0.044%) to close at 50,600.06.

The 10-year Treasury note fell 2/32, bringing the yield to 4.186%. The 30-year Treasury bond fell 2/32, bringing the yield to 4.386%.

In 1935, Bruno Hauptmann was convicted of kidnapping and murdering the 20-month-old son of Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh; he received the death penalty.
