Construction spending during December 2022 was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1,809.8 billion, 0.4% below the revised November estimate of $1,817.3 billion, the Census Bureau reported. The December figure is 7.7% above the December 2021 estimate of $1,681.0 billion. The value of construction in 2022 was $1,792.9 billion, 10.2% above the $1,626.4 billion spent in 2021. 
MARKET MIRROR
Wednesday, the Dow gained 6.92 points (0.02%) to close at 34,092.96, the Nasdaq gained 231.77 points  (2.00%) to close at 11,816.32  and the S&P 500 increased 42.61 points (1.05%) to close at 4,119.21. The Russell 2000 gained 28.87 points (1.49%) to close at 1,960.81 and the Wilshire 5000 increased 473.38 points (1.16%) to close at 41,198.34.

The price of the 10-year Treasury note decreased 3/32, bringing the yield to 3.424%%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond decreased 3/32, bringing the yield to 3.569%.

ON THIS DATE: In 1653, New Amsterdam, later renamed New York City, was incorporated as a city. In 1848, the United States and Mexico signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ended the war between the two countries. By its terms, Mexico ceded 55% of its territory, including the present-day  states California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, most of Arizona and Colorado, and parts of Oklahoma, Kansas and Wyoming. In 1876, the National League, the oldest existing major-league professional baseball organization in the United  States, began play as the National League of Professional Baseball Clubs.
