Thursday, the Labor Department will issue its initial claims report. Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics will reveal the unemployment rate for January, and the Census Bureau will report about wholesale trade for December.

Friday, the Dow took a 603.41-points (2.09%) dive, finishing at 28,256.03. The NASDAQ fell 148.00 points (1.59%) to 9,150.94, and the S&P 500 lost 58.14 points (1.77%) to finish at 3,225.52. The Russell 2000 closed 34.16 points (2.07%) lower at 1,614.06, and the Wilshire 5000 dropped 579.90 points (1.74%) to 32,838.24.

The price of the 10-year Treasury note increased 30/32, bringing its yield down to 1.501%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond climbed 1 3/32, decreasing its yield to 2.000%.

For the week ending January 31, the Dow lost 2.53%, the NASDAQ was down 1.79%, and the S&P 500 finished 2.12% lower. The Russell 2000 fell 2.90%, and the Wilshire 5000 decreased 2.09%.
