November sales of merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, after adjustment for seasonal variations and trading day differences but not for price changes, were $630.8 billion, up 1.3% from the revised October level and up 23.3% from the revised November 2020 level, the Census Bureau announced. The September to October percent change was revised from the preliminary estimate of up 2.2% to up 2.5%.

Yesterday, the Dow lost 162.79 points (0.45%) to finish at 36,068.87, the Nasdaq was up 6.93 points (0.05%) at 14,942.83, and the S&P 500 decreased 6.74 points (0.14%) to 4,670.29. The Russell 2000 fell 41.65 points (1.91%) to 2,138.16, and the Wilshire 5000 closed 77.30 points (0.16%) lower at 47,243.84.
The price of the 10-year Treasury note was unchanged, with its yield down to 1.766%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond increased 28/32, decreasing its yield to 2.088%.

In 1908, President Theodore Roosevelt declared the Grand Canyon in northwestern Arizona a national monument. In 1913, the first sedan-type car was unveiled at the National Automobile Show in New York City. The car was manufactured by the Hudson Motor Company. In 1922, at Toronto General Hospital, Leonard Thompson became the first person to be successfully treated with insulin. In 1935, Amelia Earhart Putnam became the first woman to fly solo from Hawaii to California. In 1938, in Limerick, Maine, Frances Moulton assumed her duties as the first woman bank president. In 1973, the owners of America’s 24 major league baseball teams voted to allow teams in the American League to use a “designated pinch-hitter” who could bat for the pitcher while still allowing the pitcher to stay in the game. In 1980, Nigel Short, age 14, from Bolton in Britain, became the youngest International Master in the history of chess. In 2010, Miep Gies, the last survivor of a small group of people who helped hide Anne Frank and her family from the Nazis during World War II, died at age 100 in the Netherlands.
