Construction spending during November was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1,625.9 billion, 0.4% above the revised October estimate of $1,618.8 billion, the Census Bureau announced. The November figure is 9.3% above the November 2020 estimate of $1,487.2 billion. During the first eleven months of this year, construction spending amounted to $1,463.2 billion, 7.9% above the $1,355.6 billion for the same period in 2020.

Yesterday, the Dow gained 246.76 points (0.68%) to finish at 36,585.06, the Nasdaq closed 187.83 points (1.20%) higher at 15,832.80, and the S&P 500 increased 30.38 points (0.64%) to 4,796.56. The Russell 2000 was up 27.24 points (1.21%) at 2.272.56, and the Wilshire 5000 climbed 328.21 points (0.68%) to 48,789.37.

The price of the 10-year Treasury note decreased 1 1/32, bringing its yield up to 1.636%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond fell 2 30/32, increasing its yield to 2.033%.

Edmonton’s Oilers defeated the Minnesota North Stars, 12-8. The game was the highest-scoring NHL game to date. In 1999, former professional wrestler Jesse Ventura was sworn in as Minnesota’s 37th governor. In 2007, John Boehner handed the speaker of the House gavel over to Nancy Pelosi, a Democratic Representative from California. With the passing of the gavel, she became the first woman to hold the Speaker of the House position.
