Monday the Census Bureau will report construction spending in May. Wednesday, the Department of Labor will issue its initial jobless claims report and Freddie Mac will update average mortgage rates for the week. Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics will report the unemployment rate in June.
MARKET MIRROR
Friday, the Dow lost 45.20 points (0.12%) to close at 39,118.86, the Nasdaq fell 126.08 points (0.71%) to close at 17,732.60 and the S&P 500 fell 22.39 points (0.41%) to close at 5,460.08. The Russell 2000 rose 9.35 points (0.46%) to close at 2,047.69, and the FT Wilshire 5000 Index fell 170.93 points (0.31%) to close at 54,470.66.

The 10-year Treasury note fell 31/32, bringing the yield to 4.401%. The 30-year Treasury bond fell 2 2/32, bringing the yield to 4.560%.

For the week ending June 28, the Dow fell 0.08%, the Nasdaq rose 0.24% and the S&P 500 fell 0.08%. The Russell 2000 rose 1.27%, and the FT Wilshire 5000 Index ended 1.27% higher.

ON THIS DATE: In 1863, the Battle of Gettysburg, one of the most important battles of the Civil War, began.
