How Consistent 401(k) Participation Boosts Balances

The average 401(k) plan account balance for consistent participants rose meaningfully each year between 2010 and 2019, with the exception of a slight decline in 2018, according to EBRI.

Monday, the Dow fell 164.31 points (0.52%) to 31,173.84, the Nasdaq was down 262.71 points (2.26%) to 11,372.60 and the S&P 500 slipped 44.95 points (1.15%) to 3,854.43. The Russell 2000 was down 37.36 points (2.11%) to 1,732.01 and the Wilshire 5000 decreased 525 points (1.35%) to 38,325.46.
The price of the 10-year Treasury note increased 30/32 bringing its yield down to 2.995%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond increased 1 26/32 bringing its yield down to 3.179%.

ON THIS DATE: In 1862, the Medal of Honor, awarded for battlefield bravery, was created for the U.S. Army. In 1904, Chilean poet, diplomat, politician and the winner of the 1971 Nobel Prize for Literature, Pablo Neruda, was born in Parral. In 1957, the U.S. surgeon general, Leroy E. Burney, reported that there was a direct link between smoking and lung cancer. In 1962, British rock band the Rolling Stones performed their first show, billed as the Rollin’ Stones, at a club in London. In 1976, the television game show Family Feud began airing on ABC and the show has continued—with different hosts, including Steve Harvey—into the 21st century. In 1979, between games of a baseball doubleheader involving the Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers at Comiskey Park, disco records were blown up as part of a promotion dubbed Disco Demolition Night; fans subsequently rushed the field, and, because of the ensuing mayhem, the second game was forfeited to the Tigers. In 1984, Walter Mondale, the leading Democratic presidential candidate, announced that he had chosen Representative Geraldine Ferraro of New York as his running mate.
