Thursday, the Department of Labor will issue its initial jobless claims report, and Freddie Mac will update average mortgage rates for the week.  
MARKET MIRROR
Friday the Dow fell 279.13 points (0.63%) to close at 44,371.51, the Nasdaq fell 45.14 points (0.22%) to close at 20,585.53 and the S&P 500 fell 20.71 points (0.33%) to close at 6,259.75. The Russell 2000 fell 28.58 (1.26%) to close at 2,234.83, and the FT Wilshire 5000 Index fell 261.37 (0.42%) to close at 62,540.23. 

The 10-year Treasury note fell 27/32, bringing the yield to 4.418%. The 30-year Treasury bond fell 1 25/32, bringing the yield to 4.957%. 

In the week ending July 10, the Dow rose 1.24%, the Nasdaq rose 1.52% and the S&P 500 rose 1.38%. The Russell 2000 rose 2.79%, and the FT Wilshire 5000 Index finished 1.46% higher.

ON THIS DATE: In 1881, gunfighter Billy the Kid was shot and killed by Sheriff Pat Garrett. In 1912, singer and songwriter Woody Guthrie was born. In 1921, Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, immigrant Italian anarchists, were found guilty of the murder of two men in Massachusetts. In 1960, British ethologist Jane Goodall first arrived at what became Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania; there she conducted her groundbreaking research on chimpanzees. In 1969, the film “Easy Rider” was released in U.S. theaters, becoming a classic of 1960’s counterculture and propelling Jack Nicholson to stardom. In 2013, the world’s last telegram was sent, as India’s state-run telecommunications company ended its telegraph service. In 2016, Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhel drove a truck through a crowd of people celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, France, killing more than 80 people and injuring hundreds. It was France’s third major terrorist attack in 18 months.
