New orders for manufactured goods in April, up four of the last five months, increased $2.6 billion or 0.4% to $577.5 billion, the Census Bureau reported. This followed a 0.6% March increase. Shipments, down five of the last six months, decreased $2.5 billion or 0.4% to $572.3 billion. This followed a 0.6% March decrease. Unfilled orders, up four of the last five months, increased $10.4 billion or 0.8% to $1,291.3 billion. This followed a 0.4% March increase. 
MARKET MIRROR
Monday, the Dow lost 199.90 points (0.59%) to close at 33,562.86, the Nasdaq lost 11.34 points (0.09%) to close at 13,229.43 and the S&P 500 lost 8.58 points (0.20%) to close at 4,273.79. The Russell 2000 fell 24.19 points (1.32%) to close at 1,806.71 and the FT Wilshire 5000 Index fell 122.51 points (0.28%) to close at 43,059.03.

The price of the 10-year Treasury note was unchanged, bringing the yield to 3.688%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond was unchanged, bringing the yield to 3.889%.
