Wednesday, the Dow rose 96.04 points (0.25%) to close at 38,807.33, the Nasdaq rose 330.86 points (1.96%) to close at 17,187.91 and the S&P 500 rose 62.69 points (1.18%) to close at 5,454.03. The Russell 2000 rose 29.93 points (1.47%) to close at, and the FT Wilshire 5000 Index rose 641.94 points (1.21%) to close at 53,527.50.
The 10-year Treasury note fell 2/32, bringing the yield to 4.302%. The 30-year Treasury bond fell 26/32, bringing the yield to 4.452%.

ON THIS DATE: In 1892, Chicago’s elevated Loop train line (commonly known as the “L”) began operating, and it became one of the longest and busiest mass transit systems in the U.S. In 1925, the automobile manufacturer Chrysler Corporation was incorporated, with Walter P. Chrysler as president. In 1934, the Securities and Exchange Commission was established. In 1944, led by General Dwight D. Eisenhower, an Allied armada of ships, planes, and landing craft and some 156,000 troops began the invasion of northern France from England—the “D-Day” of World War II. In 1956, Swedish tennis player Björn Borg was born. In 1982, Israel invaded Lebanon. In 1998, the TV show “Sex and the City,” starring Sarah Jessica Parker, began airing on HBO. In 2004, for her performance in, “A Raisin in the Sun,” Phylicia Rashad became the first African American to win a Tony Award for best actress. In 2015, American Pharoah won the Belmont Stakes, becoming the first thoroughbred in more than 35 years to capture horse racing’s Triple Crown.
