Wednesday, the Dow rose 91.74 points (0.27%) to close at 33,665.02, the Nasdaq fell 171.52 points (1.29%) to close at 13,104.90 and the S&P 500 fell 16.33 points (0.38%) to close at 4,267.52. The Russell 2000 rose 33.05 points (1.78%) to close at 1,888.45, and the FT Wilshire 5000 Index fell 97.75 points (0.23%) to close at 43,166.46.

The price of the 10-year Treasury note fell 32/32, bringing the yield to 3.797%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond fell 1 29/32, bringing the yield to 3.948%.

ON THIS DATE: In 1916, Biophysicist Francis Crick, who along with James Dewey Watson and Maurice Wilkins received the 1962 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for their determination of the molecular structure of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), was born in Northampton, England. In 1955, British computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee, who was generally credited as the inventor of the World Wide Web, was born. In 1966, the National Football League and the American Football League announced a merger, which became effective in 1970. In 1968, three days after his assassination in California, Senator Robert F.
