The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index improved in April, after decreasing in March. The Index now stands at 129.2 (1985=100), up from 124.2 in March. The Present Situation Index—based on consumers’ assessment of current business and labor market conditions—increased, from 163.0 to 168.3. The Expectations Index—based on consumers’ short-term outlook for income, business and labor market conditions—increased from 98.3 last month to 103.0 this month.

Tuesday, the Dow was up 38.52 points (0.15%) at 26,592.91, the NASDAQ decreased 54.09 points (0.66%) to 8,107.77, and the S&P 500 closed 2.80 points (0.10%) higher at 2,945.83. The Russell 2000 fell 7.15 points (0.45%) to finish at 1,591.21, and the Wilshire 5000 dropped 5.47 points (0.02%) to 30,410.09.


The price of the 10-year Treasury note was up 6/32, decreasing its yield to 2.503%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond increased 15/32, bringing its yield down to 2.933%.
