District Court Tosses John Hancock ERISA Lawsuit

In the week ending May 7, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims for unemployment insurance was 203,000, an increase of 1,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 202,000, the Labor Department reported. The four-week moving average was 192,750, an increase of 4,250 from the previous week’s revised average of 188,500.
Interest on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 5.30% for the week ending May 12, up from last week when it averaged 5.27%, according to Freddie Mac. A year ago at this time, the 30-year FRM averaged 2.94%. Interest on a 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 4.48%, down from last week when it averaged 4.52%. A year ago at this time, the 15-year FRM averaged 2.26%.
The Producer Price Index for final demand increased 0.5% in April, seasonally adjusted, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. This rise followed advances of 1.6% in March and 1.1% in February. On an unadjusted basis, final demand prices moved up 11.0% for the 12 months ended in April.

Thursday, the Dow lost 103.81 points (0.33%) to close at 31,730.30, the Nasdaq gained 6.73 points (0.06%) to finish at 11,370.96, and the S&P 500 was down 5.10 points (0.13%) at 3,930.08. The Russell 2000 increased 21.24 points (1.24%) to 1,739.38, and the Wilshire 5000 was up 64.44 points (0.17%) at 38,954.37.
The price of the 10-year Treasury note increased 11/32, lowering its yield to 2.862%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond increased 4/32, lowering its yield to 3.027%.
