DB Plans Report High Returns in Q1 2023
|
After a poor performance in 2022, defined benefit plans are reporting positive returns so far this year as bond markets rebound, according to Investment Metrics.

Monday, the Dow fell 140.05 points (0.42%) to close at 33,286.58, the Nasdaq rose 62.88 points (0.50%) to close at 12,720.78 and the S&P 500 rose 0.65 points (0.02%) to close at 4,192.63. The Russell 2000 increased 21.67 points (1.22%) to close at 1,795.38, and the Wilshire 5000 increased 72.44 points (0.18%) to close at 41,397.51.
The price of the 10-year Treasury note decreased 3/32, bringing the yield to 3.715%. The 30-year Treasury bond decreased 6/32, bringing the yield to 3.966%.

In 1951, China formally annexed Tibet as an autonomous region, giving rise to a Tibetan independence movement—led by the Dalai Lama, winner of the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize—that continues today. In 1980, the horror classic “The Shining,” Stanley Kubrick’s film adaption of Stephen King’s 1977 novel, was released in theaters; it starred Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. In 2000, rapper Eminem released “The Marshall Mathers LP,” which became the fastest-selling album in the history of rap. In 2015, mathematician John Nash, who won the 1994 Nobel Prize for Economics for his landmark work on game theory, and who struggled with paranoid schizophrenia, died at age 86. In 2016, President Barrack Obama announced that the U.S. would end its ban of lethal military equipment sales to Vietnam. The restrictions had been in place since the end of the Vietnam War.
