Total existing-home sales—completed transactions that include single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops—decreased 1.9% from March to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.14 million in April, the National Association of Realtors reported. Year-over-year, sales fell 1.9% (down from 4.22 million in April 2023).

Wednesday, the Dow fell 201.95 points (0.51%) to close at 39,671.04 the Nasdaq fell 31.08 points (1.08%) to close at 16,801.54 and the S&P 500 fell 14.40 points (0.27%) to close at 5,307.01. The Russell 2000 fell 16.65 points (0.79%) to close at 2,081.71, and the FT Wilshire 5000 Index fell 176.22 points (0.33%) to close at 53,258.43.

The 10-year Treasury note was flat, bringing the yield to 4.428%. The 30-year Treasury bond was flat, bringing the yield to 4.542%.
