The Russell 2000 fell 9.51 points (0.46%) to close at 2,055.13, and the FT Wilshire 5000 Index fell 34.30 points (0.07%) to close at 52,125.96.
The 10-year Treasury note decreased 3/32, bringing the yield to 4.502%. The 30-year Treasure note decreased 29/32, bringing the yield to 4.645%.

ON THIS DATE: In 1918, television interviewer and report Mike Wallace—who, while on the show “60 Minutes,” became known for his aggressive and bruising style—was born; he died in 2012. In 1939, track-and-field athlete Ralph Boston, the first man to jump more than 27 feet, was born in Laurel, Mississippi. In 1958, Alfred Hitchcock’s psychological thriller “Vertigo,” starring James Stewart and Kim Novak, premiered in San Francisco and became widely regarded as one of the greatest movies ever. In 1960, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first birth control pill. In 1974, the U.S. House Judiciary Committee began formal hearings in the impeachment investigation of President Richard Nixon. In 1980, the horror film classic “Friday the 13th,” about summer camp counselors being hunted by a masked killer, was released in theaters, and its huge success led to a popular franchise. In 2020, singer and pianist Little Richard, whose hit songs of the mid-1950s were defining moments in the development of rock and roll, died at age 87.
