Small Balance Cashouts When Annuity Contracts Don’t Allow Them
“We currently sponsor a single-recordkeeper ERISA 403(b) plan with both mutual funds and annuity contracts among the plan investments. We wish to add an automatic cashout feature for balances of $5,000 or less upon employment termination, but some (not all) of our annuity contracts do not allow for small balance cashouts. Could we just amend our plan to require cashouts for all of our mutual funds and the annuity contracts that allow them?”

The Producer Price Index for final demand increased 0.6% in October, as prices for final demand goods rose 1.2% and the index for final demand services moved up 0.2%, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. The final demand index rose 8.6% for the 12 months ended in October.

Tuesday, the Dow lost 112.24 points (0.31%) to finish at 36,319.98, the Nasdaq closed 95.81 points (0.60%) lower to finish at 15,886.54, and the S&P 500 decreased 16.45 points (0.35%) to 4,685.25. The Russell 2000 was down 15.45 points (0.63%) at 2,427.29, and the Wilshire 5000 fell 163.99 points (0.34%) to 48,787.73.

The price of the 10-year Treasury note increased 27/32, bringing its yield down to 1.438%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond climbed 1 27/32, decreasing its yield to 1.823%.
