Tuesday, the Dow was virtually unchanged at 27,691.49, the NASDAQ climbed 21.81 points (0.26%) to 8,486.09, and the S&P 500 increased 4.83 points (0.16%) to 3,091.84. The Russell 2000 gained 0.35 points (0.02%) to finish at 1,595.12, and the Wilshire 5000 closed 40.51 points (0.13%) higher at 31,488.10.
The price of the 10-year Treasury note was up 3/32, decreasing its yield to 1.914%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond increased 32/32, bringing its yield down to 2.382%.

ON THIS DATE: In 1775, during the American Revolution, U.S. forces captured Montreal. In 1805, Johann George Lehner, a Viennese butcher, invented a recipe and called it the “frankfurter.” In 1927, the Holland Tunnel opened to the public, providing access between New York City and New Jersey beneath the Hudson River. In 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a measure lowering the minimum draft age from 21 to 18. In 1956, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down laws calling for racial segregation on public buses. In 1982, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was dedicated in Washington, D.C. In 2001, President George W. Bush signed an executive order that would allow for military tribunals to try any foreigners captured with connections to the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001. It was the first time since World War II that a president had taken such action. In 2006, a deal was finalized for Google Inc. to acquire YouTube for $1.65 billion in Google stock. In 2009, NASA announced that water had been discovered on the moon.
