Yesterday, the Dow gained 31.33 points (0.11%) to finish at 28,036.22, the NASDAQ closed 9.11 points (0.11%) higher at 8,549.94, and the S&P 500 increased 1.57 points (0.05%) to 3,122.03. The Russell 2000 was down 4.11 points (0.26%) at 1,592.34, and the Wilshire 5000 was up 8.67 points (0.03%) at 31,760.55.
The price of the 10-year Treasury note increased 2/32, bringing its yield down to 1.814%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond was up 2/32, decreasing its yield to 2.297%.

ON THIS DATE: In 1850, the first life insurance policy for a woman was issued. Carolyn Ingraham, at age 36, bought the policy in Madison, New Jersey. In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address as he dedicated a national cemetery at the site of the Civil War battlefield in Pennsylvania. In 1959, Ford Motor Co. announced it was ending the production of the unpopular Edsel. In 1969, Apollo 12 astronauts Charles Conrad and Alan Bean made man’s second landing on the moon. In 1985, President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev met for the first time as they began their summit in Geneva. In 1997, in Carlisle, Iowa, septuplets were born to Bobbi McCaughey. It was only the second known case where all seven were born alive. In 1998, the impeachment inquiry of President Bill Clinton began. In 2001, President George W. Bush signed the most comprehensive air security bill in U.S. history. In 2002, the U.S. government completed its takeover of security at 424 airports nationwide. In 2007, the Amazon Kindle was first released.
