In the week ending November 2, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims for unemployment insurance was 211,000, a decrease of 8,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 219,000, the Labor Department reported. The four-week moving average was 215,250, an increase of 250 from the previous week’s revised average of 215,000.

The average interest rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is 3.69%, down from 3.78% one week ago, according to Freddie Mac. The average interest rate for a 15-year fixed-rate mortgage is 3.13%, down from 3.19%.

Thursday, the Dow climbed 182.24 points (0.66%) to 27,674.80, the NASDAQ closed 23.89 points (0.28%) higher at 8,434.52, and the S&P 500 increased 8.40 points (0.27%) to 3,085.18. The Russell 2000 was up 4.45 points (0.28%) at 1,593.99, and the Wilshire 5000 gained 84.91 points (0.27%) to finish at 31,417.31.

The price of the 10-year Treasury note decreased 1 10/32, bringing its yield up to 1.922%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond fell 1 28/32, increasing its yield to 2.394%.
