The premium due date for many plan sponsors, as well as the deadline for seeking a refund on 2023 premium payments, is coming up quickly.

Monday, the Dow fell 398.51 points (0.94%) to close at 41,954.24, the Nasdaq fell 213.95 points (1.18%) to close at 17,923.90 and the S&P 500 fell 55.13 points (0.96%) to close at 5,695.94. The Russell 2000 fell 19.71 points (0.89%) to close at 2,193.09, and the FT Wilshire 5000 Index fell 540.21 points (0.94%) to close at 56,998.07.
The 10-year Treasury note decreased 28/32, bringing the yield to 4.033%. The 30-year Treasury bond decreased 1 1/32, bringing the yield to 4.309%.

ON THIS DATE: In 1871, the Great Chicago Fire began in the barn of Patrick and Catherine O’Leary, and, by the time the blaze died out two days later, a large swath of the city had been devastated and some 300 people killed. In 1967, British politician and Labour Party leader Clement Attlee—who, while serving as prime minister of the U.K., presided over granting of independence to India—died at age 84. In 1982, the Polish legislature dissolved the trade union Solidarity, which subsequently became an underground organization and played a key role in ending communist rule in Poland, with its various leaders later holding important government posts. In 2001, in Italy’s worst civilian air disaster in 30 years, a plane took a wrong turn on a taxiway in Linate Airport in Milan and crashed into an SAS airliner about to take off, which exploded, killing 118 people, including four airport workers. In 2004, domestic lifestyle innovator Martha Stewart reported to a federal prison in West Virginia to begin her five-month sentence for insider trading. In 2005, killing at least 79,000 people, an earthquake struck the Pakistan-administered portion of the Kashmir region and the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan.
