Yesterday, the Dow gained 327.69 points (1.18%) to finish at 27,993.33, the NASDAQ closed 203.11 points (1.87%) higher at 11,056.65, and the S&P 500 increased 42.57 points (1.27%) to 3,383.54. The Russell 2000 was up 39.70 points (2.65%) at 1,536.97, and the Wilshire 5000 climbed 536.65 points (1.58%) to 34,609.36.
The price of the 10-year Treasury note was down 1/32, increasing its yield to 0.679%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond decreased 22/32, bringing its yield up to 1.417%.

In 1853, Reverend Antoinette Brown Blackwell was ordained, becoming first female minister in the United States. In 1963, a bomb exploded during Sunday morning services in the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, killing four young girls. In 1978, boxer Muhammad Ali defeated Leon Spinks at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans to win the world heavyweight boxing title for the third time in his career, the first fighter ever to do so. In 2008, Wall Street brokerage firm Lehman Brothers sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, becoming the largest victim of the subprime mortgage crisis that would devastate financial markets and contribute to the biggest economic downturn since the Great Depression.
