In August, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) rose 0.3% on a seasonally adjusted (SA) basis; rising 5.3% over the last 12 months, not seasonally adjusted (NSA). The index for all items less food and energy increased 0.1% in August, SA; up 4.0% over the year, NSA.

Real average hourly earnings for all employees increased 0.4% in August, SA. Average hourly earnings increased 0.6% and CPI-U increased 0.3%. Real average weekly earnings increased 0.3% over the month.

Tuesday, the Dow dropped 292.06 points (0.84%) to finish at 34,577.57, the Nasdaq was down 67.82 points (0.45%) at 15,037.76, and the S&P 500 decreased 25.68 points (0.57%) to 4,443.05. The price of the 10-year Treasury note was up 4/32, decreasing its yield to 1.290%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond increased 1 2/32, bringing its yield down to 1.857%.
