Existing-home sales continued to climb in August, marking three consecutive months of positive sales gains, according to the National Association of Realtors. Each of the four major regions experienced both month-over-month and year-over-year growth, with the Northeast seeing the greatest improvement from the prior month.
Total existing-home sales, completed transactions that include single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops, rose 2.4% from July to a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of 6 million in August. Sales as a whole rose year-over-year, up 10.5% from a year ago (5.43 million in August 2019).

Tuesday, the Dow was up 140.48 points (0.52%) at 27,288.48, the NASDAQ climbed 184.84 points (1.71%) to 10,963.64, and the S&P 500 gained 34.51 points (1.05%) to finish at 3,315.57. The Russell 2000 increased 11.71 points (0.79%) to 1,496.96, and the Wilshire 5000 closed 350.49 points (1.04%) higher at 34,009.80.
The price of the 10-year Treasury note was down 1/32, increasing its yield to 0.676%. The price of the 30-year Treasury bond decreased 2/32, bringing its yield up to 1.426%.
