CIGNA To Roll Out New On Line Tool

October 22, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Cigna Healthcare unveils PharmaAdvisor, a new product designed to help participants compare prescription drugs.

PharmaAdvisor will allow participants to make side-by-side comparisons between prescription drugs on such factors as:

  • Costs
  • Alternatives
  • Side effects

Scheduled for a 2003 roll out, PharmaAdvisor will include information on about 11,000 generic and brand name drugs.   In addition to the comparison feature, the new tool will allow for a search of medications used to treat a specific medical conditions, such as acid reflux disease or allergies.

With this information, and the help of this new product, participants will have the ability to create a customized list of questions to ask their doctor regarding medical condition and drug choices.

Cigna’s online Improvements are in response to a poll taken recently of its participants. The results showed 92% wanted to be more informed as health care consumers.
