Dollar Store Manager Accused of Sexual Harassment

September 26, 2005 ( - The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed suit against a Dallas dollar store company over sexual harassment allegations that include an outright sexual assault.

The suit against Simran Investments, which owns several “Only $1” and “Nothing Over $1” stores, alleged the sexual harassment and retaliation against an employee at one of its Dallas stores, according to the Dallas Business Journal.

The lawsuit, filed in US District Court in Dallas, claims Rosa Morales was repeatedly subjected to sexual harassment and acts of violence by store manager Hasanali Samnani.

Samnani was accused in the suit of:

  • touching Morales sexually
  • exposing himself
  • performing lewd acts in her presence
  • repeatedly kicking her when she tried to get away.

Morales said she reported the harassment to the store owner, Salim Khoja, but no action was taken, the EEOC said. Within a day of her last internal complaint, Samnani allegedly cornered Morales and sexually assaulted her, the lawsuit says.

The EEOC says company officials did not investigate Morales’ complaints. The EEOC says the company retaliated against Morales by lowering her pay and eventually firing her.
