Hey, That Was My Idea!

November 2, 2009 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - According to a recent survey, there's a common type of workplace theft -- and it has nothing to do with missing office supplies or employees' things.

More than one in four (29%) employees interviewed said that a coworker has taken credit for their idea, according to an OfficeTeam press release. Sadly, many who steal the limelight from their more deserving colleagues are getting away with it, as more than half (51%) of those who have had their ideas stolen by coworkers revealed they did nothing in response.

Just over a quarter (26%) of those who reported having an idea stolen said they spoke up to let others know it was their idea. Thirteen percent each said they informed their manager or confronted the idea thief.

The survey was developed by OfficeTeam and conducted by an independent research firm through telephone interviews with 444 workers age 18 or older and employed in an office environment.
