Managed Care Members Are Satisfied

October 30, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Almost half of managed care plan members are highly satisfied with their plan, according to J.D. Power and Associates.

The study surveyed 27,000 health plan members in 16 major markets.  It  found that nearly 90% of those surveyed indicate their employer provides them with choices when selecting health plans.

More than 45% of members surveyed gave high marks for their overall health care experience.

Measured were:

  • Out-of-pocket health costs
  • Provider choice
  • Information Provided
  • Approval Process
  • Preventive Services covered under the plan
  • Customer Service Interaction

Baltimore/Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia had the highest satisfaction rating of the 16 major markets with 51% giving approval to their local health plans.

Overall, 44% indicated dissatisfaction with health care cost, specifically:

  • Co-payment for brand-name prescriptions
  • Annual deductible costs
  • Monthly premiums
