Mixed Messages in Tech Comp Trends

February 20, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - A survey by an online technology recruiter shows that tech salaries rose during 2001 before dropping back in the fourth quarter to $68,400, on average.

According to the Dice Inc. survey, certain tech jobs continued to see salary increases in late 2001 including client system developers and MIS managers.

Other results of the Dice study:

  • certain cities like Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. are experiencing tech job increases
  • the gender gap survives in the tech world with women’s salaries lagging male counterparts by an average 12%
  • technology consultants have a comparatively rosy future – particularly at small businesses.
  • Highest paying skills for consultants were expertise in SAP, Peoplesoft and JD Edwards.

The Dice survey included more than 61,000 technology professionals.
