SHPS Names David Nelson President and Chief Executive Officer

July 18, 2003 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Total benefits outsourcer SHPS has named David Nelson its new president and chief executive officer.

Nelson, who brings 25 years of health care industry experience with him, will take over the position after David Garner left the firm to pursue other interests. Nelson joins the company after most recently serving as chairman and CEO of Webmedx, a provider of Web-based clinical applications and outsourced health care services, according to a news release.

Nelson’s resume also includes stops at a number of health care firms:

  • president and CEO of Hawk Medical Supply, a joint initiative with Premier Healthcare, acquired by McKesson Corporation in August 1998
  • CEO of Automated Healthcare; acquired by McKesson in 1996
  • president and CEO of Amsco International from 1988 to 1995
  • various leadership positions with American Hospital Supply Corporation and Baxter International.

Currently, Nelson serves as chairman of the Northern Illinois University Foundation Board of Directors, chairman of Forbes Regional Hospital and serves on the boards of the West Penn Allegheny Health System, Webmedx, Inc., National Surgical Hospitals, Inc. and Pinnacom Solutions, Inc.
