FTSE Adds US Firms to Social Investing Indices

March 13, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The FTSE Group, a creator of equity indices, has added 11 US companies to its FTSE4Good Social Responsible (SRI) index.

The companies were added after a committee determined that they had met FTSE’s corporate social responsibility entry criteria. The criteria include: working towards environmental sustainability, developing positive relationships with stakeholders, upholding and supporting universal human rights.

  • Georgia-Pacific Group
  • John Hancock Financial Services
  • Kimberly-Clark
  • Lucent Technologies
  • Pfizer
  • Progressive Corporation Ohio
  • Stilwell Financial
  • Weyerhaeuser

Top five on the FTSE4Good US Index and the FTSE4Good Global Index lists will be Microsoft, Citigroup, Pfizer, Intel, and American International Group.

FTSE said more than 250 companies worldwide, submitted updated information and asked to be considered for inclusion in the indices. Over 80 new companies worldwide actually met the criteria and will be admitted to the index series. 

FTSE, which launched the SRI Index on July 31, 2001 (see FTSE Details Socially Responsible Index Criteria  and FTSE Introduces News Social Index Family ), notes that the latest changes will be applied at close of business on Friday March15.
