DoL Answers Questions on Health Reform and COBRA
Three of the four questions ask about specific COBRA issues: was the COBRA premium subsidy extended by health care reform, was the 18 month COBRA maximum coverage period extended by health care reform, and was COBRA eliminated or changed by health care reform – to which the answer for all of these is “no.”
The fourth FAQ addresses how health care reform affects an individual’s group health plan coverage. The DoL explains generally that the health care reform legislation makes many changes to employer-sponsored group health plans.
The DoL also provides resources (agency Web sites) where more information about the health care reform changes may be found.
