Many US workers Send Warm and Fuzzies to their Boss

October 4, 2006 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - All in all, American workers apparently have a relatively positive relationship with their employers, according to a new global survey.

A news release from NetReflector, a Seattle-based marketing firm, found that 66% of US workers surveyed felt their boss cares about them as a person, 58% have confidence in their company leadership and 66% would recommend to a friend that they work there as well.

Not only that, but, according to the press release, the poll found that64% of US workers reported getting independence to make important decisions and 49% felt their contributions help meet corporate performance goals.

On the negative side, almost six in 10 workers (56.6%) feel that their boss does not set goals that would help them get promoted.

In fact, when asked what a boss could do more of, US workers’ top pick (43%) was that their boss could better use their skills and abilities. This was followed by:

  • 35.7% wanted their boss to step in and resolve conflicts
  • 25.4% asked that their ideas be listened to more readily
  • 9.5% felt that bosses put too much pressure on them

The poll was conducted by GMI (Global Market Insite, Inc.) in April 2006. Some 9,351 full- and part-time workers were surveyed online in ten countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Russia, Turkey, the UK and the US.
